Hello, my name is Doctor Andrew Cooper. I’m the medical director here at Caledon Clinic in beautiful Caledon East Ontario. I’m happy to announce that we are now able to offer treatments for severe mental health disorders with what are being called breakthrough therapies. These include conditions like treatment, refractory, depression, PTSD, some types of anxiety and even possibly some types of chronic pain.
Our system here is to review patients with the condition in a detailed way based on many particular features. So, I can’t say here who would be a candidate for treatment and who would not without that person in front of me and us having a doctor to patient conversation called a consultation.
Our team at Caledon Clinic is truly multidisciplinary because the care of an individual with a mental health condition should be multidimensional, addressing many dimensions of a person’s well-being and existence. So, coming here for treatment, you will not only receive the medication but after treatment, you’re going to be introduced to tools to help you consolidate the remarkable effects of these new medications.
It’s known that these agents create the conditions for new nervous system connections to be made. Something called synaptic plasticity. Maybe we can actually unlearn through some new thinking tools and this treatment which you can get your head around better after receiving it.
The way it’s going to be done is in a CPSO level 2 out-of-hospital premise, this clinic has been thoroughly inspected and meets the rigorous standards established by the CPSO to promote safety and protect patients during treatment. We passed all the criteria and your care here is going to be very safe.
Over here, we have a sophisticated monitor which gives us the ability to look right at your brain activity during the session so that we can use a measured endpoint for the treatment effect, if we need to. When you return for your 2nd, 4th and 6th treatments in the cycle, you’ll be introduced to our partner psychotherapist, who will help you learn new ways to approach your life in the posttreatment period. We follow up with you in scheduled appointments after that to reassess the durability of the treatment effect and to make sure you’re still uh ok after leaving these doors.
