My name is Bud Sukhu, and I am the registered psychotherapist working here at Caledon Clinic. Clients that come to me, basically, are looking for some help with unraveling what’s going on in their mind. They’re looking at their life challenges, family issues, work issues, personal issues, which is causing them to be either very anxious, very depressed or they could also have some clinical issues.

We talk about emotional dysregulation, how to control your emotions when things are… you feel like the world is giving in on you. We work on mindfulness to get you grounded.

Counselling for Couples

I’m a trained marriage counselor and certified to work with clients to help them resolve their interpersonal relationship differences.

Counselling for Families

As a family, when something happens within the family, we all, it affects all of us differently. We need to look at the whole family, how they interact, how they behave, and how they deal with issues.

Individual psychotherapy services offered at Caledon Clinic.

We offer individual psychotherapy to adults for a wide range of issues including life challenges, family and work issues.

Mental health issues that we address through individual counselling include the following but are not limited to:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety

Couples therapy offered at Caledon Clinic.

Couples therapy offers a safe space to facilitate healing of fractured relationships.

Our psychotherapists will work with you to identify strengths that are the source of resilience and bonding in your relationship. We will together identify sources of disharmony, feelings of isolation, and disengagement. You will, as a couple, explore and identify negative patterns of interaction and create a better understanding of each other that will lead to improved communication skills and connection.

We use Gottman Method couples therapy to guide couples towards new perspectives, learning new skills and ways of thinking that promote connection, love and harmony.

Family Therapy

We will work with you to restore family harmony through identifying sources of disharmony and causes of fracture in family relations.

There are many ways families can become fractured leading to loss of connection, bonding, and love. Some of the common reasons families seek therapy are:

  • Substance abuse
  • Emotional dysregulation
  • Mental health issues such as depression and anxiety
  • Financial stressors
  • Work stressors
  • Grief and loss

Family therapy will be focused on guiding caregivers to learn specific skills to help de-escalate tensions in the home by improving parental communication skills and coping skills.

Our Psychotherapy Treatment Process

Consultation & Initial Assessment

The first step in your psychotherapy journey is the initial assessment. During this session, you will meet with our psychotherapist who will gather important information about your personal history, current challenges, and mental health concerns. This is a collaborative process where you will also identify your therapy goals and discuss what you hope to achieve through treatment. Our psychotherapist will assess whether Caledon Clinic’s therapeutic approach aligns with your needs and preferences.

After the initial assessment, we will develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific goals. This plan may include an overview of the therapeutic techniques that will be utilized and recommendations for how often you should attend psychotherapy sessions.

Ongoing Therapy Sessions

During these psychotherapy sessions, you will have the opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe and supportive environment. Engaging in open discussions about your emotions and behaviours is a key component of the process.

Evaluation & Adjustment

Throughout the therapy process, we will continuously evaluate your progress. This may involve periodic feedback sessions where you discuss what is working well and what may need to change in your treatment approach. Additionally, your goals and strategies may be re-assessed based on your evolving needs and experiences, ensuring that the therapy remains relevant and effective.

Frequently Asked Questions About Psychotherapy

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy, often referred to as “talk therapy,” is a structured, evidence-based approach to addressing mental health, emotional, and behavioural challenges. It provides a safe and confidential space where individuals can explore their feelings, thoughts, and behaviours with the help of a trained therapist.

How Does Psychotherapy Work?

Psychotherapy involves a collaborative relationship between you and your therapist. Together, you’ll identify specific challenges or goals, discuss underlying causes or triggers, and develop strategies to address them. Therapy can help you uncover patterns in your thoughts and behaviours, provide coping tools, and offer new perspectives. Progress is gradual and built on trust, open communication, and consistency.

At Caledon Clinic, our psychotherapists utilize various evidence-based approaches tailored to each client’s unique needs. Techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based interventions are employed to promote healing and positive change.

How Long Does a Typical Psychotherapy Session Last?

The length of the session will depend on the type of therapy and your personal needs. However, psychotherapy sessions typically last between 50 and 60 minutes.

Does Insurance Cover Psychotherapy?

While psychotherapy is not covered by OHIP, many employer insurance plans offer partial or full coverage for therapy, but the specifics depend on your plan. Contact your insurance company to confirm details like provider eligibility and out-of-pocket costs.

How Do I Know Which Type of Psychotherapy is Right for Me?

Choosing the right psychotherapy treatment depends on your goals and circumstances. Our therapists can help you decide after discussing your concerns and what you hope to achieve in the initial assessment.

It is governed by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), which makes sure registered psychotherapists meet professional and ethical standards.
